Gokyo Lakes 2010/11 - Joe Bonington takes you to one of
the highest lakes in the worldThe Gokyo lakes trek is a beautiful alternative to our Everest Base Camp Trek. The trek is more off the beaten track than other treks in the region and is slightly harder physically but well worth the effort. Though physically demanding this beautiful trek meanders through the heart of the region allowing plenty of acclimatization time. A less well trod, quiet and tranquil path through stunning scenery and passed one of the highest lakes in the world, providing stunning mountain panoramas and amazing views of the Everest Massif and surrounding peaks. On this trip we meet up with our sherpa friends in the region, partake in a buddhist Puja, visit Pertemba Sherpa and his Sherpa heritage house and truly get to partake in Sherpa Culture.

Bhutan, the mystical kingdom. Bhutan a constitutional monarchy, which to maintain it’s culture and well being of it’s people puts strict limits on the amount of tourists it allows in every year. This beautiful country is one of the least touched and most culturally preserved countries in the region. On this trip we will be exploring the country together on a true adventure, as neither Joe or Chris have visited the country before but have always wanted to explore this amazing land.

About Us
We don’t sell millions of trips all over the world, we sell a small exclusive number of trips into places that we have a history with and have an affinity to.
Our history
Bonington Treks was founded by Joe Bonington. Joe has grown up with adventure in his blood. Joe’s father is Sir Chris Bonington CBE, a living mountaineering legend and one of the world’s most successful expedition leaders. So from cradle onwards Joe has heard of tales of adventure and of far off lands. Helping his Dad on lecture tours and preparing for expeditions as a child gave Joe a taste for exotic countries and wild locations.
Our treks
Our treks take a little longer because we treat you as if you were in an expedition, allowing more time for acclimatisation. Unlike some other trekking companies we want to maximise your chance of reaching your end destination.
We allow opportunities to immerse the trekking team in the unique culture of the region, visiting monasteries, temples and points of cultural heritage.
Our support crew
Our ground crew in Nepal are second to none. Our contacts in Nepal go back along way. Bikrum Pandey, our agent in Kathmandu, has been organising professional expeditions for over 20 years as well as organising for the world’s major trekking companies and charities. One of our Sirdars, Ram, was a porter on Chris’s famous 1975 South West Face expedition. He is now one of the countries most sought after and experienced trekking sirdars.
